This post is actually long overdue but I just had the feel of blogging and I'm actually out of topic since my life is getting pretty mundane lately. So, treasure hunt it is. :)
For those who doesn't know, MCKL has been organising their annual treasure hunt for the past 7 years? I don't know. I don't care. Lol. Anyway, yea. They do. Being a new MCKL student, I thought of giving it a shot. Okay, maybe its mainly because I have paid for it in my student activities fee though they made it sound so nice by saying it is "Absolutely free." Nice try though I must say.
The hunt were for students from the age of 15 up to those who are in college. Trust me, the competition was really tight. Fighting for the prizes with the other 800 over contestants is a real challenge for someone who is physically unfit and lazy like me. Lol. Running is just not my thing. What more, round the whole KL. Actually, I wasn't that desperate for their prizes although they were giving iPads and iPod Touches away.
Anyway, each team comprises of two people only. And I was pairing up with my little friend, Christie. Hehe. The event was scheduled to start at 8 in the morning and surprisingly, it started on time. For once, the term "Malaysian timing" didn't apply here. Okay, maybe they did delay for 10 minutes or so. As usual, there were speeches and a short performance. What I didn't expect was to sing the national anthem (Come on, we're in college now after all) and what more, the college song. Seriously. Lol.
After everything, we were told to head to the starting point as the flag off time was at 8.30 in the morning and the whole hunt was scheduled to last for 4 whole hours which means we're supposed to reach our end point which is our college at half past twelve in the afternoon.
Let me just briefly state our route for the whole hunt. We were supposed to start from our college and walk all the way over to KL Sentral. From there, we were supposed to take the Putra to Ampang Park and then walk from there to the Bukit Nanas monorail station. Then, take the monorail over to the Bukit Bintang station, walk over to Times Square, run around Times Square from one end to the other, take the monorail from Imbi to Hang Tuah and run again to the checkpoint which is so freaking far from the station. Once we've gotten our chops, we were expected to run back to the Hang Tuah station and finally take the train back to our college. The joy of reaching college is indescribable. But wait! They had to make us run up 2 flights of stairs just to submit our answer sheet to them. God bless them.
Trust me, it was one hell of an experience. Never in my life would I have thought I'd travel round the city in such a way. Yes, I am a blessed kid with good transport. But I ain't that lazy okay. I do walk over a long distance at times. Oh, by the way, we weren't just expected to travel and walk around KL like that. Lol. We were given a book full of clues and riddles and we had to fill up the answers in the answer sheet provided to us along the way. Basically, we had to keep our eyes wide open along the way just to get the answers found just about anywhere and everywhere.
Once we reached our end point, and climbed up two flights of stairs which seems to be as high as Mount Everest back then, we realised that we were 2 minutes later than the estimated time of arrival which literally means that we're disqualified. Damn it. All my efforts and energy wasted was for nothing. Without any hope and any care in the world at that moment considering the fact that we were famished, we just went down and headed to the cafeteria to have our lunch.
At just about 2 in the afternoon, we gathered at the field again as they were about to announce the winners and what nots. Now, get this! :D We realised that our efforts didn't go down the drain after all after being announced as the 6th group out of the top 10. We won and iPod shuffle with a buffet voucher for Shogun and another voucher which I forgot what it is. Teehee. Honestly, it wasn't expected because we were late and we were unsure of many answers. Lol. On the other note, Sara and Alicia came in 5th. ;)
It was a great achievement and I went home a happy kid. Although I was eyeing for the iPad 2. Blah. I should just be grateful after all. From nothing to something. Besides, it was an awesome experience running round KL alongside my friends. Hee.
Lesson learnt was to expect the unexpected. You'll never know the outcome until the end. Just give your best and try anything and everything to achieve it. There will be no regrets. :)
